The app gives you shortcuts to all the services you have access to at helsenorge.no. The services will open directly in the browser on your mobile.
You can log in to the app using facial recognition, your fingerprint or a personal code. You do not need to use ID-porten every time you use the services.
Download the Helsenorge app
The Helsenorge app is available for Android and Apple devices and can be downloaded from here:
Can I use the Helsenorge app?
To use the app, you must have a phone that meets the following requirements:

- Android: Android phones must be updated to at least version 7.
If you have an older phone that cannot be updated to meet these requirements, you will unfortunately not be able to use the Helsenorge app on that phone. However, you will still be able to use Helsenorge in the browser on your phone. To do this, open your browser, type in “helsenorge.no” and gain access to all the Helsenorge services.
You must also:

You can also use the app to find your nearest health centre for adolescents and your GP’s contact details.
With parental consent and a BankID, you will be able to access some services from the age of 13.
Book an appointment with your public health nurse in Helsenorge’s app
Helsenorge’s app lets you book an appointment with your school’s public health nurse without your parents receiving any information about this.
Push notifications in the app
When you log in to the app, you will be asked if you want to enable push notifications. If you enable push notifications, you will receive all notifications from Helsenorge in the form of push notifications on your mobile phone or tablet. We will send you exactly the same information that we have previously sent you by email or text message, for you and anyone you use Helsenorge on behalf of.
Turn off push notifications
If you have enabled push notifications but wish to revert to using SMS or email, you will need to turn off notifications from the app under settings on your phone or tablet. It is not possible to change the push notification settings from within the app.
To turn off push notifications, you must:
1. Close the app
2. Go to Settings on your device
3. Remove permission in the notification settings on your phone

To use the app, you must consent to:
- processing of personal data
- use of Helsenorge
The app does not require any special app access from your phone, nor will it request such access.
Users of the solution for adolescents have the option of using the map feature. To use the map feature, you must allow location sharing.
The first time you log in to the app, you must log in via ID-porten. You will then be able to create a personal code and enable biometric login, such as facial recognition or fingerprint login.
You will need to enable biometric login again every six months. This is for security reasons.
You may not be able to use the Helsenorge app if you have an old version of an operating system, such as iOS or Android. We support some older versions of the operating systems, but are unfortunately unable to support all previous versions.
We have to make individual adaptations for each version of an operating system. This makes it difficult to support many different versions. Newer versions of operating systems are normally more secure than older ones, which is why we are working to support new versions.
At Nettvett.no, you can find out more about updates and why it is a good idea to keep your mobile and tablet up to date.
An app code, also known as a personal code or security code, is a self-selected code that you use to log into helsenorge.no through the Helsenorge app. The app code is four digits long.
You must first create an app code before you can enable facial recognition and fingerprint login.
Yes, logging in to the app is as secure as when you log in to helsenorge.no in the normal way.
If your phone uses Android 10 and has access to Google Play Store, you will be able to use the app.
The app is not available in Huawei’s own App Gallery. If your phone does not have access to Google Play Store, you will not be able to use the Helsenorge app.
We store the following personal data about you when you use the app:
- That you have agreed to enter into the agreement concerning terms and conditions of use
- Personal data that is obtained from helsenorge.no. This information is stored at helsenorge.no or at other primary sources as described in the terms and conditions of use for helsenorge.no.
- Logs of times during which the app is in use. These are stored at helsenorge.no.
For more information, see terms and conditions of use for the app
If you have any questions about the processing of personal data by the Helsenorge app, you can contact our data protection officer via personvernombud@nhn.no.
We will process the following personal data about you when you use the app:
- Your identity (authenticated through ID-porten).
- The services that you are to have access to at helsenorge.no. This is based on your consent to use helsenorge.no.
- The number of new messages and events that you have at helsenorge.no.
- Times of logging in and out of the app.
- Information about use of the Helsenorge app.
Why do you need to process this information?
Having access to this information enables us to make sure that the app is functioning as intended and provide you with high-quality services. It also ensures that we can safeguard security and investigate errors and security incidents in the Helsenorge app.
Information stored in the app will be deleted when you uninstall the app. When you uninstall the app, you also cancel the agreement you entered into when you accepted the terms and conditions of use the first time you used the app.
To delete other information linked to your Helsenorge profile, you must withdraw your consent at helsenorge.no. You can do this via Profile and Settings in the app. The page will then open in your phone’s browser.
Yes, you can represent other people in the app.
Once you have logged in, you can choose who you want to use Helsenorge on behalf of if you have custody of one or more children or you have been authorised by someone else to use Helsenorge on their behalf.
The chatbot is not accessible from the home page in the Helsenorge app. You can access the chatbot when you open one of the services in your mobile browser from the app’s home page.
If you lose a phone on which you have installed the app, log in to helsenorge.no and then log out again. This will disable access from your phone.
If you have used the Helsenorge app on your old phone and restore it from a backup on a new phone, you may get the following error message: “Technical error, please try again later.”
This problem can be resolved by uninstalling the app and reinstalling it on the new phone.
Privacy policy
In order to use the Helsenorge app, you must consent to the processing of personal data. The processing that takes place is described in the Privacy Policy.
1 Privacy Policy
The Helsenorge app is an app that is provided by the Norwegian health network (Norsk Helsenett SF/NHN).
This Privacy Policy applies to the general processing of personal data in the Helsenorge app. The Privacy Policy applies in addition to the privacy policies for the Helsenorge services that you wish to use.
2 Processing of personal data
Here, we describe what personal data we process about you when you use the Helsenorge app, why we process it (purpose) and what allows us to process it (legal basis for processing). Personal data is a piece of information that can be linked to you, such as your national identity number or your location.
2.1 Responsibility for processing
NHN is the data controller for the processing of personal data that takes place in connection with use of the Helsenorge app. This means that NHN is responsible for ensuring that your privacy is safeguarded in the solution.
2.2 Processing activities
The main purpose behind our processing of personal data in the Helsenorge app is to provide you with Helsenorge services on your mobile phone.
2.2.1 Login
To enable you to log in to the Helsenorge app, we will process your name and national identity number, which we obtain from ID-porten.
If you set up simplified login (PIN, biometric data or similar), your identity will be stored for up to six months from the time you log in. If you withdraw your consent, your data will be deleted (see Chapter 3).
2.2.2 Map services
The Helsenorge app offers a map service which enables you to see healthcare services and facilities near you, such as your local out-of-hours medical service or health centre for adolescents. The health services are shown both on a map and in list form.
If you use the map service, we will ask you for permission to access your phone's location. If you give us this permission, we will be able to centre the map and sort the list according to distance from your phone’s location.
Your phone’s location will not be stored or used for any other purpose.
2.2.3 Push notifications
If you enable push notifications, you will receive all notifications from Helsenorge in the form of push notifications on your mobile or tablet. To send you notifications, we will process an identifier which points to your device and app (a subscription token) and the reason for your notification, including information about the notification (e.g. “You have received a new message at Helsenorge”).
If you enable push notifications, we will use the push notification service for your phone (Apple or Google) to send you notifications.
2.2.4 Security purposes
To enable us to safeguard security and investigate errors and security incidents in the Helsenorge app, login and logout times are logged in the app. Logs of app use are deleted after two years.
This processing is necessary to fulfil our legal obligation to ensure a satisfactory level of data protection. The legal basis for the processing is therefore Article 6(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); see Article 32 of the General Data Protection Regulation on the security of processing.
2.2.5 Web analysis
To provide you with high-quality services, we process data for statistical purposes. Adobe Analytics is used as a tool (Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited is Norsk Helsenett’s processor for this purpose).
The information is anonymised when it is sent to Adobe, which prevents it from being linked to you in any way.
Information used for this purpose includes information about the device (model name and number, operating system and version, mobile subscription provider, screen resolution, language), the app (name and version, time of installation, updating, start and stop) and the user (login, page visits, accepts or declines the terms and conditions of use, whether or not the user selects biometric or PIN code login, changes profile settings, is a first-time user, logged in or not, whether the user has unread messages or notifications).
Information on how the app is used is necessary in order to provide high-quality digital Helsenorge services. This is a task that Norsk Helsenett performs in the public interest. The legal basis for the processing is Article 6(1)(e) of the GDPR.
3 Your rights
Here, we describe your rights in relation to our processing of your personal data in the Helsenorge app.
You have the right to be told what personal data about you is being processed, as well as to have any inaccurate personal data corrected. You also have the right to have personal data about you deleted or the processing of it restricted, provided certain conditions are met. These rights are pursuant to articles 15 - 18 of the GDPR. For questions about or to exercise these rights, you can contact NHN’s data protection officer (see Chapter 4).
You have the right to withdraw your consent to use of the app. The processing of personal data about you linked to use of the app based on your consent to use of the app will then cease and the data that is stored will be deleted.
You can withdraw your consent by simply uninstalling the app.
You have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority if you believe our processing of personal data is in breach of the GDPR.

1 About the service
The Helsenorge app is an app that is provided by the Norwegian health network (Norsk Helsenett SF/NHN). For more information about the Helsenorge app, visit helsenorge.no/helsenorge-appen.
If you are aged 13 or over and log in using MinID, the app will offer you the option to book an appointment with a public health nurse at school, find your local health centre for adolescents, and book an appointment to see your GP. If you are aged 16 or over and log in using one of ID-porten’s high level security options (BankID, Buypass or Commfides, referred to here as ‘high level security’), the app will give you simplified access to Helsenorge services on your mobile.
This Privacy Policy applies to use of the Helsenorge app and the processing of personal data as described in Chapter 3. The processing of personal data that takes place at Helsenorge independently of this app, if you have consented to the use of Helsenorge services, is not regulated by this Privacy Policy, but by the terms and conditions for the use of Helsenorge.
2 What you will need to use the Helsenorge app
You must have a Norwegian national identity number or D number.
You must be at least 13 years of age.
You must have familiarised yourself with this Privacy Policy.
You must be able to use one of ID-porten’s login options.
3 Processing of personal data
NHN is the data controller for the processing of personal data that takes place in connection with use of the Helsenorge app. Here, we describe what personal data we process about you, for what purposes and on what legal basis.
3.1 Processing activities
The purposes behind our processing of personal data when you use the Helsenorge app are:
- to offer you a simple way to access Helsenorge and provide you with information about the number of new messages and events you have at Helsenorge, if you are aged 16 or over and log in using high level security (see Section 3.1.1)
- to provide you with specialist services for adolescents, if you are aged 13 or over and log in using MinID (see sections 3.1.2 and 3.1.3).
In addition, personal data will be processed for security and statistical purposes (sections 3.1.4 and 3.1.5 respectively).
If you set up simplified login (PIN, biometric data, etc.), your identity will be stored for up to six months after you log in using ID-porten, so that we can offer you simpler login on your mobile during this period. The data will be deleted if you withdraw your consent (see Section 3.3).
3.1.1 Offer you a simple way to access Helsenorge on your mobile (for people aged 16 or over who log in using high level security)
In order to offer you a simple way to access Helsenorge on your mobile, we will process your identity (authenticated through ID-porten), which services you are to have access to at Helsenorge based on your consent to the use of Helsenorge, and the number of new messages and events you have at Helsenorge. We will process this personal data on the basis of your consent to use of the app (see Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR).
3.1.2 Provide services offered by the school health service and health centres for adolescents (for people aged 13 or over who log in using MinID)
By ‘services offered by the school health service and health centres for adolescents’, we mean:
3. Option to view information on who works for the school health service at your school
4. Option to request an appointment with the school health service
5. Option to receive the information that the school health service sends to all pupils at your school or in your year group
6. Map of health centres for adolescents near you
In order to provide you with information about and from the school health service, and enable you to request an appointment with the school health service, we will process your name and national identity number (obtained from MinID) and school and class affiliation (obtained from you if you decide to disclose it).
If you request an appointment with the school health service, your request will be sent to the school health service at your school. Appointment requests and booked appointments will be stored at Helsenorge and in your medical record kept by the school health service. If the school health service does not already have a medical record for you, one will be created for you so that an appointment can be made for you. The school health service is obligated to create a medical record for you when you request an appointment via the Helsenorge app. This duty is called the duty of documentation (see Section 39 of the Health Personnel Act).
Information about requested, booked and cancelled appointments will be stored at Helsenorge until you withdraw your consent to use of the app under “Profile and Settings” in the app (see Section 3.3). Note that the information will still be stored in your medical record kept by the school health service due to the duty of documentation. If you have any questions about the information about you that is kept by the school health service, you can contact the school health service at your school.
If you use the service to find your nearest health centre, we will request permission to access your phone’s location. If you consent to this, we will use the location to centre the map on your location and sort the list of health centres according to distance from your phone’s location.
Processing of the personal data is based on your consent to use of the app (see Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR).
3.1.3 Viewing of GPs (for people aged 13 or over who log in using MinID)
To show you who your GP is, we will process your name and national identity number. We will process the personal data based on your consent (see Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR).
3.1.4 Processing of personal data for security and troubleshooting purposes
To enable us to safeguard security and investigate errors and security incidents in the Helsenorge app, login and logout times are logged in the app. The log is saved at Helsenorge. If you are aged 16 or over and have consented to the use of Helsenorge, this log will also be visible to you at Helsenorge so that you can control use of the app.
Logs of app use are stored at Helsenorge and deleted after two years for security purposes.
This processing is necessary to fulfil our legal obligation to ensure a satisfactory level of data protection. Accordingly, the legal basis for processing is Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR; see Article 32 of the GDPR concerning security of processing.
3.1.5 Statistics on use of the Helsenorge app
To provide you with high-quality services, we process data for statistical purposes. Adobe Analytics is used as a tool and Adobe is Norsk Helsenett’s processor for this purpose. The information is anonymised when it is sent to Adobe, which prevents it from being linked to you in any way. No health or other sensitive personal data is used for this purpose.
We have a legitimate interest in providing you with the best possible service and this processing is necessary for this purpose. The legal basis for this processing is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
3.2 App accesses
The app has an option to enable push notifications and log in using biometrics. You may be asked to accept the setup of this if you wish to enable the features.
If you would like to use the service to find your nearest health centre, the app will ask you to share your phone’s location with us. You can use this service without sharing your location.
3.3 Your rights
You have the right to be told what personal data about you is being processed, as well as to have any inaccurate personal data corrected. You also have the right to have personal data about you deleted or the processing of it restricted, provided certain conditions are met. These rights are pursuant to articles 15 - 18 of the GDPR. For questions about or to exercise these rights, you can contact NHN’s data protection officer (see Section 3.4).
You have the right to withdraw your consent to use of the app. The processing of personal data about you linked to use of the app based on your consent to use of the app will then cease and the data that is stored will be deleted.
- If you are using or have used the app by logging in using MinID to access services for adolescents, you can withdraw your consent under “Profile and Settings” in the app (when logged in using MinID).
- If you only use the app by logging in using high level security, you can withdraw your consent by performing a full logout from the app or uninstalling the app.

This processing of personal data is necessary in order for us to fulfil the agreement with you and is based on Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.
3.1.1.1 Local storage of selected content at Helsenorge
In order to offer viewing of content without a network connection, the content of selected services will be stored locally in the Helsenorge app if you use the service. The following services will store content locally in the app if you use them: COVID-19 certificates.
This processing of personal data is necessary in order for us to fulfil the agreement with you and is based on Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.
Consent to the processing of health data:
Because the content may contain health data, we also need your consent; see Article 9(2)(a) of the GDPR. By using the app and visiting the services in the bullet point list above, you consent to the storage of content for these services. No storage will take place if you do not visit these services. You can withdraw your consent to this storage by performing a full logout from the app or uninstalling it. The stored content will then be deleted.

Adobe Analytics is used as processor for this purpose. The information is anonymised when it is sent to Adobe, which prevents it from being linked to you in any way. No health or other sensitive personal data is used for this purpose.

3.1 Processing activities
The primary purpose of our processing of personal data in connection with your use of the Helsenorge app is to fulfil NHN’s obligations under the agreement, i.e. to offer you a simple way to access Helsenorge and provide you with information about the number of new messages and events you have at Helsenorge (see Section 3.1.1).
Simple content may also be stored in the app (see Section 3.1.2).
In addition, personal data will also be processed for security and statistical purposes (see sections 3.1.3 and 3.1.4 respectively).
3.1.1 Offer the user a simple way to access Helsenorge on their mobile phone
In order to offer you a simple way to access Helsenorge on your mobile, we will process your identity (authenticated through ID-porten), which services you are to have access to at Helsenorge based on your consent to the use of Helsenorge, and the number of new messages and events you have at Helsenorge. This processing of personal data is necessary in order for us to fulfil the agreement with you and is based on Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.
3.1.2 Local storage of selected content at Helsenorge
In order to offer viewing of content without a network connection, the content of selected services will be stored locally in the Helsenorge app if you use the service. No personal data will be processed for this purpose, other than the data which originates from the content you choose to download. Content will not be stored locally in the app if you do not visit the service.
The following services will store content locally in the app if you use them:
- COVID-19 certificates
This processing of personal data is necessary in order for us to fulfil the agreement with you and is based on Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.
Consent to the processing of health data:
Because the content may contain health data, we also need your consent; see Article 9(2)(a) of the GDPR. By registering your consent to use of the app, you consent to the storage of content for the above services. No storage will take place if you do not visit these services. You can withdraw your consent to this storage by performing a full logout from the app or uninstalling it. The stored content will then be deleted.
3.1.3 Processing of personal data for security and troubleshooting purposes
To enable us to safeguard security and investigate errors and security incidents in the Helsenorge app, login and logout times are logged in the app. The log is saved at Helsenorge. This log will also be visible to you at Helsenorge so that you can control use of the app.
This processing is necessary to fulfil our legal obligation to ensure a satisfactory level of data protection. Accordingly, the legal basis for processing is Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR; see Article 32 of the GDPR concerning security of processing.
3.1.4 Statistics on use of the Helsenorge app
To provide you with high-quality services, we process data for statistical purposes. Adobe Analytics is used as processor for this purpose. The information is anonymised when it is sent to Adobe, which prevents it from being linked to you in any way. No health or other sensitive personal data is used for this purpose. Information used for this purpose is app information and device information.
This processing is necessary for us to provide you with the best possible service. Accordingly, the legal basis for this processing is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
