In Settings, you can, among other things, choose which notifications you want to receive, grant powers of attorney, view your contact details, modify consent and limit how healthcare professionals can use your health data.
Helsenorge will notify you of important events relating to your health, such as a new appointment with your doctor. You can choose to receive notifications as push notifications directly from the app or via SMS message or e-mail. We will send the notifications via SMS message unless you decide you wish to receive notifications in some other way.
You will only receive notifications for the services you have access to. SMS notifications are issued between 07:00 and 23:00. Notifications issued in the app and via email are sent 24/7.
You can find all notifications received from Helsenorge by clicking on the bell symbol at the top of the page while logged in.
Notification settings
You can enable or disable push notifications in the app settings in the Helsenorge app.
If you have enabled push notifications, you will receive notifications only as push notifications in the app.
You can also select SMS and email as optional notification methods if you do not have the app installed or if you do not receive notifications.
Default notifications
Many notifications are mandatory; you will receive these regardless of which options you choose. This is because Helsenorge has a duty to provide you with information and is legally required to send you notifications. You can otherwise choose how many notifications you want to receive and how you want to receive them.
Mandatory notifications only
If you opt to receive mandatory notifications only, we will issue only the most important notifications relating to treatment and information from the health sector. Examples include information about appointments and decisions.
Recommended and mandatory notifications
You can choose to receive other important notifications relating to your health and activities that you carry out on Helsenorge, as well as mandatory notifications. Examples include messages relating to prescription renewals.
All default notifications
If you opt to receive all default notifications, we will also issue notifications that are not directly linked to your health. Examples include additional reminders regarding tasks and activities.
Notifications from other services
You can opt to receive notifications from other services that are not included in the default notifications above. You will receive these notifications regardless of how many notifications you have selected.
You will always receive notifications relating to your child if the child is under 16 years of age. If you have been granted power of attorney for someone, you will automatically receive notifications on their behalf. If you do not wish to receive such notifications, you can modify this in your notification settings.
If you or someone you are acting on behalf of are in receipt of municipal home care services, you can receive notifications when a home care services visit has been completed. Notifications from the home care services are not shown in your notifications list when you are logged in to Helsenorge. You can find the appointment again by looking under previous appointments in Appointments.
You will receive notifications when you can view health data on Helsenorge that has been recorded in relation to you by the health services, but that does not require any follow-up. Initially, this applies to test results but, over time, it could also apply to other data.
Powers of attorney
Here you can grant power of attorney for someone else to use Helsenorge services on your behalf. You can also grant power of attorney for someone else to collect prescription medications on your behalf from a pharmacy or medical device supplier (currently available with Apotek 1 and Farmasiet only).
Power of attorney settings
You can use Helsenorge on behalf of other people who have granted you power of attorney. You will have access to their health data and will be able to help them use Helsenorge.
You can choose what the power of attorney will be valid for based on your needs and those of the person who will be using Helsenorge on your behalf. You can, for example, select that the power of attorney will be valid only for access to your health data or access to your medical records. You can also select that the person who you grant power of attorney to will be able to carry out activities such as booking appointments with your doctor or collecting prescription medications on your behalf.
Here you can also modify or revoke powers of attorney. You can find revoked powers of attorney under History. You can only modify powers of attorney that you have granted yourself, not powers of attorney that have been granted to you.
Contact with Helfo on behalf of others requires a separate power of attorney. The person granting power of attorney must complete a form that must be submitted to Helfo via the digital form feature.
You can grant power of attorney to someone else so that they can collect prescription medications and other prescribed products on your behalf at pharmacies and medical device suppliers. This is not the same as power of attorney to use Helsenorge on behalf of someone else.
There are two ways in which you can grant someone else power of attorney to collect prescription medications on your behalf.
You can create a power of attorney on Helsenorge for someone else to collect prescription medications on your behalf. This service is currently being tested and the power of attorney can currently be used only with Apotek 1 and Farmasiet.
The person who is granted power of attorney must bring the following in order to collect prescribed products from a pharmacy or medical device supplier:
their own identification document
the national identity number of the person who has granted power of attorney

Contacts and communication requirements
Here, you are able to provide information about your next of kin, employer and whether you require assistance, e.g. if you have impaired hearing, speech or vision.
Settings for contacts and communication requirements
If you have a summary care record, you should add information about your next of kin and how they can be contacted. Healthcare professionals who need to contact you or your next of kin will have access to this information. You can add multiple next of kin and you can specify which of them are considered your immediate next of kin.
If you change your mind and would prefer to change your immediate next of kin, you need to remove them from the list, register who you want your immediate next of kin to be and then re-add anyone else as ordinary next of kin.
You can also enter details about your employer if you want healthcare professionals to have access to such contact details. It may be useful for healthcare professionals to know who your employer is, e.g. if you require a medical certificate.
Here, you can tell us if you have any challenges relating to language, hearing, speech or vision. This may be useful for healthcare professionals to know, so that they can accommodate your needs. The data will be available to healthcare professionals via your summary care record.

You can choose to limit access by restricting or blocking access to your entire summary care record or you can choose to restrict only parts of the summary care record or add restrictions for specific healthcare professionals only.
Here you can also restrict healthcare professionals’ access to view which prescriptions you have been prescribed via the Prescription Intermediary.
