The following rates apply to patient journeys made on or after 1 January 2026:

User fees
You must pay a user fee for the journey if you do not have an exemption card for health services. A separate user fee is payable for each single journey. If your journey is a round-trip, you will have to pay two user fees.

Exemption from user fees
You will not have to pay a user fee if you:
- are a child under 16 years of age
- are a companion
- are travelling in order to be examined, treated or checked for a dangerous communicable disease
- are travelling in order to be examined or treated for an occupational injury or war injury
- are travelling in order to attend involuntary mental healthcare as an outpatient
- are travelling in order to be admitted to involuntary mental healthcare as an inpatient
- are a close next of kin travelling to a psychiatric outpatient clinic for children and adolescents
- are travelling in order to become a donor (preliminary and aftercare examinations, as well as the transplantation itself)
- are being transferred between two institutions within the same hospital trust
- are travelling to a meeting of the abortion appeal board in connection with consideration of a decision concerning abortion after week 18 of pregnancy
Exemption card
If you pay more in a year than the fixed user fee ceiling, you will be entitled to an exemption card.
User fees for journeys made when you are free to choose the treatment centre do not count towards an exemption card.
