About the pilot programme for the Test Results service
In the Test Results service, you will eventually be able to view the results of various tests and examinations, such as blood tests, CT scans or X-rays. In 2025, the service will be tested for residents.
How do I use the service during the pilot programme?
If your test or examination takes place at a participating laboratory or radiology department, you will be able to log in to Helsenorge to view your test results.
The Test Results service will be rolled out gradually throughout Norway. This means that different treatment providers will start using the service at different times. You may therefore find that your test results are not always available on Helsenorge or that not all treatment providers are able to access the results immediately.
Eventually, all hospitals, GPs and other clinics will be able to view results from different tests and examinations regardless of where they were carried out.
What can I see in the Test Results service?
When you log in to Helsenorge and access Test Results, you will be able to view the results of tests and examinations. This is the case regardless of the treatment you are receiving, where the test was taken or who it was requested by.
You can see some test results as soon as they are ready. Other test results will not be shared with you before a few days have passed. This could, for example, happen if the doctor needs to discuss the results with you before you can view them.
Why can I not find my test results?
If you are unable to see your test results, this could be because:
The person who requested or carried out the test is not yet using the service.
It can take some time before the sample has been analysed.
Some test and examination results must be reviewed before you get access to them.
Your test results will be shared with your treatment providers
The Test Results service is intended to provide healthcare professionals with easier access to your test results. This can be useful if you have a chronic illness or complex care pathway. It can also be important if you require urgent care, such as at the out-of-hours medical service.
It is up to you whether you want your test results to be stored in the service. You can also decide who has access to view your test results.
Opting out of the storage of data
You can opt out of data about you and your test being stored and shared. You can do this under Privacy Settings after logging in. When you opt out, existing test results will be deleted and new test results will not be stored.
If you want to opt in later, you can do so under Privacy Settings. After opting in, you will receive test results again. If you opt in again before 30 days have passed, your earlier test results will also become available. After 30 days, all test results will be deleted and you will no longer be able to view earlier test results.
If you are unable to log in to Helsenorge, you can submit a hard copy form to opt out or opt in again.
If you are a parent or guardian of a child under the age of 16, you may also opt out or opt in again on their behalf.
Please note that it can take up to 30 days from the time at which you opt out (for yourself or your child) before the test results are deleted. The test results will not be visible to you or to healthcare professionals during this period.
If you have parental responsibility for a child under 16 years of age, you can opt out of their test results being recorded and stored. You can also opt in again if you have previously opted out.
Please note that it can take up to 30 days from the time at which you opt out on behalf of your child before the test results are deleted. The test results will not be visible to you or to healthcare professionals during this period.
When you opt out from the Test Results service, your test results will be deleted from the service.
The person who originally requested the test or examination, such as your doctor, will still have access to the test results in their medical records system. This is because they have a duty to store the information in your medical records. The enterprise that conducted and analysed the test will also have your test results in their system.
Blocking or restricting access for healthcare professionals
If you do not want your test results to be shared with named healthcare professionals, you can restrict their access by blocking them from seeing your test results.
A block will always apply, even in emergencies.
If you do not want healthcare professionals to have access to your test results at all, you can restrict access. The person who requested the test will still be able to view the test results in their medical records system but everyone else will need to obtain your consent to access the results.
In emergency situations, healthcare professionals can override restrictions to access your test results.
Risks of blocking and restricting access to test results
Your test results are important for those providing treatment to easily and securely access accurate details about you. If they are unable to do so, there is a risk that you may not receive the care you need. Tests or examinations may also need to be repeated.
You can block healthcare professionals’ access to your test results under Privacy Settings. Here you will also be able to revoke any previous blocks you have made. You must be logged in to do this.
When blocking access for healthcare professionals under Privacy Settings, you can choose between blocking their access permanently or for a period of time. You can select the dates for the time period.
You can also contact the Helsenorge helpline on +47 23 32 70 00. They can look up the HPR number for you.
If you want to block access for several treatment providers, you will need to block each individual separately.
You can restrict healthcare professionals’ access to your test results under Privacy Settings. You can also opt in again here if you have previously opted out. You must be logged in to do this.
When restricting access for healthcare professionals under Privacy Settings, you can choose between restricting their access permanently or for a period of time. You can select the dates for the time period.
If you do not want to log in to Helsenorge to block or restrict access for healthcare professionals, you can do so by submitting a hard copy form instead. You will find the address to which the form must be sent, on the form.
