Information concerning COVID-19 for persons without legal residence
Everyone in Norway is entitled to a free COVID-19 test and healthcare if they have COVID-19.
Free COVID-19 test
The symptoms of COVID-19 include
- loss of sense of smell and taste
Contact the healthcare service if you develop COVID-19 symptoms or you think you may be infected.
You can contact the healthcare service in your municipality or call the out-of-hours emergency medical service on phone: 116 117.
If you live in Oslo or Bergen, you can get help with testing and healthcare via the Health Centre for undocumented migrants (kirkensbymisjon.no).
The COVID-19 test is free.
When you contact the healthcare service, you will not need to show your passport or other ID.
Healthcare professionals who take the test can opt to have the rapid test or the ordinary test. If you take the rapid test, you will get the result within 20 min. If you take the ordinary test, you will get the result within 1-4 days.
Healthcare professionals are subject to a duty of confidentiality. This means that they will not share information about you and your health with anyone else.
Do you need an interpreter?
You should let them know if you need an interpreter. You have the right to an interpreter for your language. Healthcare professionals can book an interpreter. This is free for you. The interpreter will also be subject to the same duty of confidentiality.

Isolation og quarantine
If you have COVID-19, you must go into isolation. You will be offered free accommodation where you can stay for 10 days or until your fever has disappeared. You will be given food and drink. While you are in isolation, you will not be able to have visitors. You will not be able to visit anyone else or go out either.
If you have been in close contact with someone who is infected with COVID-19, you must go into quarantine for 10 days. You will be offered a free test and accommodation where you can stay during your quarantine. You will be given food and drink. While you are in quarantine, you will not be able to have visitors. You can go out, but you will not be able to visit anyone else.
The COVID-19 vaccine is initially being given to everyone over 65, and anyone who has symptoms which mean they could become very ill if they became infected with COVID-19. If the authorities recommend that all adults be vaccinated, the offer will also apply to undocumented adults. The vaccine is free.
The vaccine may cause short-term side effects. The most common of these are pain in the arm, mild malaise, headache and, in some cases, fever. This will pass after a few days.
