How to receive guests from abroad
Welcoming guests from abroad is different this year. In order to keep your guests, yourself, and your local community safe, it is important that the visit does not lead to the spread of infection.
Inform guests on Norwegian infection protection
It is important that everyone follows the advice below to prevent the spread of infection:
- Avoid receiving guests if you are ill. Stay home.
- If your guests become ill with symptoms of COVID-19 while staying in Norway, they need to self-isolate.
- Everyone with COVID-19 symptoms should get tested as soon as possible. Testing for COVID-19 is free and available at the out-of-hours medical service nearest you.
- Maintain good hand hygiene by washing your hands frequently and thoroughly or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Keep at least one-meter distance from others, except from those closest to you*.
Everyone traveling to Norway from abroad must go into travel quarantine for 10 days, starting the day of arrival. This does not apply to those coming to Norway from areas in EU/EEA/Schengen with sufficiently low transmission. Mandatory actions for quests in quarantine:
- Guests need to stay at home or in another suitable place of residence.
- Guests can only move outside the place of residence if they are able to avoid close contact** with other people than those closest to them.
- Guests cannot use public transportation.
- If the guests develop symptoms of COVID-19, they need to get tested as soon as possible, and stay at home or in another suitable place of residence until they are free of symptoms.
How to facilitate at home
Hosting guests from other countries makes you responsible for creating new routines at home to prevent the spread of infection.
Appropriate hygiene measures at home
- Make it easy to maintain good hand hygiene. Make paper towel or a separate towel for each guest available. Put out an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- If possible, guests could use a separate bathroom/toilet.
- Regularly clean surfaces that are often being touched (e.g., door handles).
- People who do not normally live together or regarded as ones closest, should keep at least one-meter distance.
- The person cooking and serving the food must wash their hands thoroughly and frequently.
- The person cooking and serving the food must be healthy.
- Everyone should wash their hands before every meal. Put an alcohol-based hand sanitizer on the table.
- Everyone needs to be given their own cutlery for eating but can share the cutlery used for serving the food.
- Avoid finger food and buffets.
